Sculptra
The Latest In Non-Surgical Youth Restoration
Sculptra Announcement
Sculptra is the trade name for the substance Polylactic acid (PLA). PLA is a simple synthesized sugar that once injected into an area, gradually stimulates the production of collagen. It can be used to naturally fill out cheeks, temples and the hollow under your eyes with your own collagen.
The product is designed to breakdown naturally into lactic acid which your body has a natural pathway to further breakdown into carbon dioxide and water. The results, in general persist through 25 months (greater than 2 years) with some patients obtaining even longer lasting results.
Sculptra Aesthetic is now FDA approved for cosmetic use.
Youthful faces are full and round and soft, but the gradual loss of fat with age will take its toll with time. Scultra is considered by many to be the 'next big thing' in soft tissue augmentation, this filler adds volume to thin, aging faces. Sculptra works both by filling in lines and wrinkles and by stimulating your body to produce new collagen and soft tissue. This results in a fuller, more youthful appearance.
Sculptra has been used throughout Europe since 1999 to improve the appearance of aging skin folds, indented chin surfaces, hollowed cheeks, and sunken eyes. Sculptra was recently introduced in the United States and has been climbing in popularity. Initially approved for facial wasting in people with HIV — the AIDS Virus — this filler has since received approval from the FDA for the treatment of deep nasolabial folds (smile lines) and other facial wrinkles.
The Sculptra filler provides up to 80 percent improvement in the treated areas. It produces results that are fully evident in three to six treatment sessions and lasts up to two years.
Sculptra® is mainly used for facial contouring, such as filling out flattened temple areas or sunken cheeks. It is very useful in improving contours and brings the youthful look back. Sculptra is typically administered in a series of treatments separated by at 4 to 6 weeks in order to achieve optimal results. Depending on the degree of facial atrophy, it may be necessary to perform between 2 to 6 sessions.
The contour improvement is usually reached after a few months and may last up to 2 years or more. Some of the factors that likely affect the durability of response include physician technique and experience, patient age, skin thickness and quality, and the degree of movement of underlying facial muscles. For sustained results it is likely that periodic touch up treatments will be necessary on as needed basis.
